Surgical Services - AHVC

Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures, including laser surgery.

Surgical Laser

The surgical laser has improved the surgical methods previously treated with a scalpel or electrosurgical unit.

The Benefits of the surgical laser are many:

  • The laser seals nerve endings, reducing the amount of pain during and after surgery.
  • Reduces the amount of bleeding by cauterizing and sealing small blood vessels.
  • Eliminates the tearing and bruising associated with traditional surgical methods.
  • Laser energy acts as an antibacterial thereby, reducing the risk for infection.

As a result, laser surgery provides the patient with a quicker recovery.

Laser therapy is an effective, non-invasive, drug-free, form of treatment that aids in the management of many different conditions.

  • Chronic/acute pain management
  • Post-surgical healing
  • Hot spots and lick granulomas
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Multiple orthopedic diagnoses

The near-infrared light enhances capillary flow promoting increased oxygen to the cells resulting in bio-stimulation (healing).

Typically there are no side-effects other than reenergizing your pet and returning home relaxed and wanting to rest. Each session lasts approximately 5 minutes per site.

Our hospital is equipped with an in-house laboratory to provide you with diagnostic laboratory test results quickly and efficiently.

We offer a wide range of in-house testing, we also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultation services to care for your pet’s complete health care needs.

The most common types of testing offered to include:

  • Heartworm Testing, This important test requires a small blood sample and works by detecting the presence of heartworm proteins.
  • Stool Analysis, The analysis of your pet’s stool can identify the presence of parasites, organisms, and bacteria.
  • Urine Analysis, This analysis provides information about your pet’s urinary tract and kidney function.
  • Feline Leukemia (FELV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). These diseases can be diagnosed by conducting a simple blood sample, which identifies FELV proteins in the blood and looks for the presence of FIV antibodies.
  • Blood Chemistry Panel, This is a series of tests that provide information about your pets internal organs and metabolic health.
  • Complete Blood Cell Count (CBC), The CBC reveals the number and condition of your pet’s red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

While there are many different levels of anesthesia, you can trust our veterinarians to make the appropriate recommendation for your pet.

Dogs and cats are often placed under general anesthesia for diagnostic and surgical procedures.

While under anesthesia, your pet is monitored using various methods. In addition to constant human evaluation, blood pressure, EKG, oxygen, and temperature regulation occurs continuously.

Monitoring a patient under anesthesia is a complex undertaking and is extremely important to ensure your pet’s health and safety. Our skilled and experienced technicians closely observe a patient’s heart rate, blood flow, and respiratory functions from the beginning and throughout the recovery process.

Caring for your pet’s teeth is paramount to keeping him or her healthy.

Left untreated, conditions such as gingivitis, infection and periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss, cardiac issues and kidney disease. While such conditions can be controlled, it’s important to note many of these diseases are also preventable.

At Animal Health, we provide several important services that support the oral health of your dog or cat.

  • Comprehensive Oral Assessments
  • State-of-the-Art Dental X-Ray
  • Dental Cleaning
  • Extractions

Because the majority of an animal’s tooth lies below the gum line, the human eye is unable to detect many potential problems.

However, digital dental X-ray allows us to see more and do more when it comes to your pets dental health. Digital x-rays capture superior images, decrease radiation exposure and provide a quicker, more reliable overall picture. Many of our patients have benefited from these early detection capabilities.

To keep your pet safe and comfortable, all cleanings are performed under general anesthesia. Tartar and plaque are removed first from the tooth surface and then from beneath the gum line. After each tooth is cleaned and evaluated for potential extraction if necessary the enamel surface is polished with a specially formulated paste that slows future buildup. We believe that regular cleanings are imperative to preventing more serious health problems down the line.

When a dog or cat is ill, it can be very challenging to determine the underlying cause.

At Animal Health we use state-of-the-art digital imaging technology to help properly diagnose and treat our patients.

We use both radiography (X-Ray) and ultrasound technology to provide a thorough examination of your pet’s internal health. Both procedures are very safe and each can offer unique advantages in various situations. Radiographs are especially helpful to show changes in bone, irregular shapes in the abdomen, or the presence of foreign objects.

Ultrasounds are available when it’s needed to monitor real-time organ and blood activity.

The exams are noninvasive, require no chemicals and can provide images from various angles quickly and easily. Frequently, ultrasound technology is used to evaluate internal organ regions, the heart and to look for or monitor any suspicious masses. Both digital radiographs and ultrasound technology is a significant advancement in veterinary care and we are proud to offer these services to our clients right in our clinic.

Feeding is an important part of raising your pet.

Our hospital understands the importance and role of nutrition in animal health and animal productivity. Regular nutritional assessment and counseling can be a vital link in the chain of preventive care.

When it comes to pet food, no one product is the absolute best. However, our team of veterinarians and experienced technicians can help you select the right food based on your pet’s individual needs. When discussing suitable foods, we also consider your pet’s age and lifestyle, life stage, and dietary requirements. We strongly encourage pet owners to become educated about how to read pet food labels. Terms such as “human grade” and “grain-free” can be very misleading.

We want to help provide you accurate information when making a pet diet decision.

In some cases, diets are uniquely formulated and offered as a prescription diet and are not available in retail stores.

Our hospital offers prescription diets and complimentary treats as well as veterinary-approved snacks, chews and specific supplements.
